City-Run of Buchholz

My first 10km run, well, my first without swimming and cycling to warming up, and even this, I only made it once before

Now I asked myself, how do you this distance. Full speed right from the beginning or divide it? I´m not living near Buchholz, and I didn´t know, how the course is, I just knew that it´s not flat. Nowhere it´s flat in Buchholz, I knew it from the annually MTB CC-Races here or from the finals of the Stevens Cup.

4 rounds with each 2,5km lay ahead of me with altogether 220m of altitude. It´s was the main event that day and the last. The start was at 16:450´clock. Normally I´m an early bird, so late a day it´s not my favourite time to race. I already digested my breakfast and lunch and now I felt the afternoon tiredness.

The Rennsteig-Run was just 3 weeks ago, and we only got 3 easy runs in the last 3 weeks and no proper preparations fort his run.

The girl in front of me, started quite easy, Hell, move on….I passed her really fast. I decided myself for the full speed part. It worked on the first km´s and almost I chewed my lunch again, because everthing inside me shouted stop, quit.

So, I had two possibilities, to quit, or to reduce my speed and hoped that now one would see me or get to know this, it would be very embarrassing for me. And to quit the race, before the audience? No way… so, slow down, catch your breath and cool down and just go on…

In the middle of the third round my power came back. Normally I´m doing longer distances and I started to collect and pass the others again. Beginning of the 4th round I catch my wife and I thought, when she gets herself something to drink at the last aid-station, I´ll make the last move to her and at the last turn, the last 300m, she remarked that I was there and that I passed her, than she made her move and tried to catch up with me again and I moved faster again, later I knew that this move was the important move to win my AG.

Torben started quite fast right from the beginning and soon he find someone to run with. Like a pace maker, but shortly before the finish his running mate lost his power and he could move on and was able to win his AG, and to finish with a good time.

Well, and we still don´t know how to run a 10km….
